    針對國際環境條約執行碎片化、氣候正義議題中的南北差異等挑戰,本會將提出:

◦ 建議國際機構搭建面向青年的「可持續治理參與通道」,降低青年參與國際議題的門檻;

◦ 倡導建立亞太地區青年環境治理網絡,推動區域內青年在氣候行動、生態保護、水資源治理等領域的協同合作;

APYDA to Participate in ILA-Canada International Forum on Environmental and Sustainable Development

  1. Background & Forum Overview

The Asia-Pacific Youth Development Association (APYDA) is officially invited to participate in the online international forum “Commitment in Times of Crisis: Prospects for International Environmental and Sustainable Development Regimes in 2026 and Beyond”, hosted by the International Law Association Canada (ILA-Canada). The association has completed its official registration and confirmed full participation as an institutional delegate.

Scheduled for April 29, 2026 (11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. EDT), the forum brings together leading scholars and legal experts from top institutions including the University of Cambridge, University of Toronto, Université de Montréal, University of Waterloo, and the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law. Focusing on post-pandemic challenges in international environmental law, climate governance, and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the event serves as a high-level platform for authoritative academic and policy dialogue.

  1. APYDA’s Role & Youth Perspective

As the youth organization representing the Asia-Pacific region at this forum, APYDA will contribute the voice and practical experience of young people across the region, focusing on three core dimensions:

  1. Sharing Local Experiences of Youth Engagement in Environmental Governance
    Drawing on APYDA’s recent work in promoting youth-led green initiatives, SDGs outreach, and cross-border exchange programs in the Asia-Pacific, the association will present case studies of how young people advance international environmental agreements through localized and digital approaches—such as community-led climate action projects and creative collaborations between intangible cultural heritage and sustainable lifestyles. These examples offer a practical Asia-Pacific perspective on youth participation pathways.
  2. Discussing Opportunities and Challenges for Youth in Global Environmental Governance
    Addressing challenges including fragmented implementation of international environmental treaties and equity gaps in climate justice, APYDA will propose:

◦ Establishing youth-focused “participation pathways” in multilateral institutions to lower barriers for young people to engage in global policy processes;

◦ Advocating for a regional Asia-Pacific youth network on environmental governance to foster collaboration on climate action, ecological conservation, and transboundary water management;

◦ Promoting youth-centric communication strategies to advance sustainable development and popularize green lifestyles among young communities.

  1. Building Bridges for International Youth Cooperation
    The forum will also serve as an opportunity for APYDA to connect with global youth organizations and academic institutions, exploring future partnerships for transnational sustainable development exchange programs that equip young people with global perspectives and practical skills.
  2. Significance & APYDA’s Forward Outlook

Participation in the ILA-Canada forum marks a key milestone in APYDA’s growing engagement with international issues. It enables the association to deepen its understanding of international environmental governance frameworks and sustainable development policies, while providing a vital platform for young voices from the Asia-Pacific to contribute to global discussions.

Moving forward, APYDA will build on this experience to strengthen cooperation with international legal and environmental governance bodies, developing more high-quality exchange programs for young people in the Asia-Pacific. The association will continue to empower youth to address environmental challenges with a global mindset and advance green development through local action, contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable future.
